9ஆம் நூற்றாண்டின் எழுத்தமைதியில் நான்கு வரிகள் கொண்ட கல்வெட்டும், அதன் கீழ் ஒரு வீரனின் உருவம் கொண்ட நடுகல்.
வீரன் தனது வலது கையை உயர்த்தி குத்துவாளை ஓங்கியவாறும், இடது கையானது முஷ்டி முத்திரையில் உள்ளது. தலைமுடி இரண்டு சுருள்கள் கொண்ட கொண்டையாக முடியப்பட்டும், அவரது இடுப்பில் மற்றொரு குறுவாளும் உள்ளது.
நான்கு வரிகள் கொண்ட இக்கல்வெட்டு “கரைஞ்காட்டூர் மக்களுடன் நேர்ந்த பகைக்கு தள்ளம்பி என்பவரும், மற்றொரு வீரனும் தன்னுயிரை இழந்ததாக” குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. இதில் இக்கல்வெட்டில் முதல் வரி சிதைந்துள்ளதால், மற்றொரு வீரன் பெயரை அறிய முடியவில்லை
இந்த நடுகல்லின் மேல்பகுதியில் கூர்மையான ஆயுதங்களைத் தீட்டி கூர்மைப்படுத்தும் பழக்கம் மக்களிடம் இருந்ததால் கல்வெட்டின் முதல்வரி சிதைந்ததற்கு காரணம் என்கிறார்கள் அறிஞர்கள். சங்ககாலம் முதலே இந்த பழக்கம் இருந்ததாக அகநானூற்றுச் செய்யுட்களின்வழி அறியப்படுகின்றது.
“பானாட் கங்குலும், பெரும்புன் மாலையும்,
ஆனா நோயொடு அழிபடர்க் கலங்கி,
நம்வயின் இனையும் இடும்பை கைம்மிக,
என்னை ஆகுமோ, நெஞ்சே! நம் வயின்-
இருங்கவின் இல்லாப் பெரும்புன் தாடி,
கடுங்கண், மறவர் பகழி மாய்த்தென,
மருங்குல் நுணுகிய பேஎம்முதிர் நடுகல்,
பெயர்பயம் படரத் தோன்றுகுயில் எழுத்து”
இதில் மறவர்கள் தங்கள் அம்புகளைக் கூர்தீட்ட இந்த நடுகற்களைப் பயன்படுத்தினார்கள் என்றும், உப்பு வணிகர்களின் வண்டிகள் மோதினமையாலும் நடுகற்கள் பல சிதைந்தன என்கிறது. இதனால் நடுகல்லில் பொறிக்கப்பட்டிருந்த எழுத்துக்களை பாதித்து என்கிறது.
இத்தகைய சிறப்பு வாய்ந்த நடுகற்களை கண்டால் மக்களிடம் அதன் பயனை எடுத்து சொல்லுங்கள்.

The warrior raises his right hand and brandishes his dagger while the left hand is in a tight fist. His hair is in a bun with two curls, and he has another dragger around his waist.
The four-line inscription mentions, “Thallambi and another warrior lost their lives in a fight with the people of Karainkattur”. Since the inscription’s first line is damaged, another hero’s name cannot be known.
Scholars say that the first line of the inscription is defaced because people had the habit of sharpening sharp weapons on the upper part of this middle stone. Akanaṉūṟu mentions sharpening the weapons on top of these hero stones is a practice that has existed since the Sangam period. This is said to have affected the letters engraved on the hero stone.
