வளரி என்ற சொல்லுக்கு மிக பெரிய வரலாறு உண்டு. இன்று வளரி என்ற சொல்லும் அதன் பயன்பாடு பற்றி நமக்கு தெரியாமல் போனாலும், இது போன்ற நடுகற்கள் மூலமாக அல்லது சங்க இலக்கியங்கள் மூலமாகவோ எங்கோ ஒருவரால் இன்றும் பேசப்பட்டு வருகின்றது.

பா அடி யானை பரிசிலர்க்கு அருகாச்
சீர் கெழு நோன் தாள் அகுதைகண் தோன்றிய
பொன் புனை திகிரியின் பொய்யாகியரோ!”

இதில் ‘திகிரி‘ என்பது வளரியின் இன்னொரு பெயராகவும். வளரி பெரும்பாலும் போர்களுக்கும், வேட்டையாடலுக்கும் நம் முன்னோர்களால் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டது. ஆங்கிலேய அரசை திணறச்செய்தது இந்த வளரி ஏந்திய படை என்று சொன்னால் மிகையாகாது.
கொல்லிமலை அறப்பளீஸ்வரர் கோயில் எதிரே மக்கள் ஆரவாரமின்றி அமைந்துள்ளது இந்த நடுகற்கள். இந்த புடைப்புச்சிற்பம் எங்கே இருந்து கொண்டுவந்தது என்று அறிய முடியவில்லை.
இங்கே காணப்படும் இரு சிற்பத்தில், ஒருவர் அஞ்சலி அஸ்தம் / வணங்கிய நிலையில் வளரியை பிடித்தவாறும், இன்னொருவர் வளரி உதவியுடன் தனது தலையை துண்டிப்பது போன்றும் அமைந்துள்ளது.
இது போன்ற அறிய பொக்கிஷங்கள் மக்கள் கண்டும் காணாமல் போவதை பார்த்தால், வருத்தமாகத்தான் உள்ளது.

The word Valari has a long history. Even though we don’t know about the use of the Valari today, it is still being spoken by someone somewhere through these hero stones or Sangam literature.

In this, ‘Tigiri‘ is another name for Valari. Our ancestors primarily used Varali for wars and hunting. It is no exaggeration to say that this Valari army stifled the British government.
Without much hype, these Hero stones are in front of the Kolli Hills, Arapaleeswarar Temple. It is unknown where the relief came from. In the two sculptures seen here, one is holding a Valari with the Anjalihasta position, and the other is seen cutting off his head with the help of a Valari.
It is sad to see such treasures of knowledge disappearing despite people.
